Fear, We Need to Talk. (You’re Not in Charge Anymore.)

First of All… Fear, Who Put You in Charge?

Let’s clear something up.

Fear has been acting like the CEO of our lives for far too long. It calls emergency meetings over things like:

  • Posting a photo.
  • Raising your prices.
  • Saying no.
  • Trying something new.
  • Starting a YouTube channel.
  • Speaking your truth.

It files everything under: CRITICAL SURVIVAL THREAT. And honestly, no one remembers voting it in.

You Were Designed for Tigers. Not YouTube.

Fear’s original job description was solid. Thousands of years ago, it kept us alive and told us things like:

“Don’t eat that berry.”
“Run from that predator.”
“Fire hot. Don’t touch.”

Excellent work, Fear! Five stars!

But somewhere along the evolutionary line, Fear forgot to update its software. Now it treats:

  • Sending an email
  • Launching a project
  • Starting a business or a YouTube Channel
  • Having an honest conversation
  • Being visible

Like we’re about to be chased through the forest by a saber-toothed tiger.

However, in reality, it’s a newsletter, a YouTube video or a new opportunity. It is not a cliff dive into a canyon.

  • No one is throwing spears at you.
  • You are not sporting animal skins.
  • There is no scary mammoth charging from behind the trees.

Yes, there may be an occasional troll lurking behind a keyboard. But is someone hiding behind a screen really a life-or-death threat?

Growth is not a predator. It just feels unfamiliar…

Fear Is Ego in Survival Mode

Let’s go deeper for a moment, shall we?

What we often label as “fear” in these situations isn’t actual danger. It’s ego. Ego’s job is identity protection. It wants to keep you:

  • Liked
  • Approved of
  • Accepted
  • Predictable
  • In control

And, then the ego whispers:

“If you raise your prices, they’ll leave.”
“If you speak up, they’ll judge you.”
“If you shine, you might outgrow who you’ve been.”
“If you try and fail, you’ll look foolish.”

Ego isn’t evil. It’s protective, but it is not visionary. And, here’s what the ego forgets:

  • Your talents matter.
  • Your message matters.
  • Your lived experience matters.
  • What you uniquely can bring to humanity matters.

The world does not benefit from your silence. It benefits from your contribution.

Fear says, “Stay small so you won’t get hurt.” Your purpose says, “Show up because you’re needed.”

The Bully with a Megaphone

So, here is the truth…

Fear is a big talker. It predicts disaster with cinematic detail:

“What if this ruins everything?”
“What if you embarrass yourself?”
“What if you fail publicly?”

It plays dramatic background music in your mind like you’re starring in a survival documentary titled: Woman Posts Video. Her Tribe Rejects Her. Chaos Erupts.

But if you slow down and look closely, you’ll notice that Fear is often just an illusion (False Evidence Appearing Real). It’s like that loud kid on the playground who threatens everyone, but when you stop reacting, you realize… it doesn’t actually follow through.

It survives on intimidation. It counts on you squirming. Because when you stop and ask: “Okay… and then what?” The catastrophic storyline usually collapses.

Yes, you might feel uncomfortable and exposed, but you will still be alive!

Remember, discomfort is not danger, but Fear confuses the two.

The Illusion of Catastrophe

Fear creates worst-case scenarios because it believes its job is to prevent pain. But here’s what it doesn’t understand:

You are not fragile.
You have survived awkward conversations.
You have survived mistakes.
You have survived being misunderstood.
You have survived hard seasons.
You can survive someone not liking your post.

The bottom line is…YOU SURVIVED!!!

When Fear says, “This will destroy you,” what it usually means is, “This might stretch you.” And stretching can feel foreign, which triggers old survival wiring. And believe me, that old wiring is loud, but loud does not equal true.

Let Fear Attend the Meeting (Without Running It)

You see, we’re not eliminating Fear. We’re just… well, demoting it!

Fear can sit at the table, but it doesn’t get the microphone, final approval, or run the company.

Because here’s the empowering truth: you are the awareness noticing Fear. And, awareness is always bigger than emotion. You don’t need Fear to disappear to move forward. You simply have to stop giving it executive authority. Instead, you listen, you evaluate, and then you choose from a place of alignment rather than alarm or reactivity.

Bullies quiet down when you stop shrinking. Illusions dissolve when you turn on the light. And growth begins the moment you realize: You were never actually in danger. You were just expanding.
